Document management system

A Document management system allow for storage and management of a company’s documents, such as word processing document , presentation and spredsheets. A central library or repository , stores all document within a company or department . the system support access control, security, version tracking of documents search capabilities and the ability of users to check in check out document, Users are granted access to certain parts of repository depending on their needs.

A document management system has benefit of tracking a document through out it’s life a cycle, from creation, through changes, and finally to archival. Additional information can be stored along with the document that describes the uses and history of the document. This information can include the document’s creation date, the user who created the document, the project to which the document belong s, copy right information , a summary of the document , and any keyword associate with the document. This information can be used for searches within the document repository.
